mates magazine is a non-profit organisation led by and for early-career creatives. We engage and develop emerging talent through commissions, editorial development, and exhibition opportunities. Through interviews and personal stories, we honour individual histories, not only as reflections of craft and perspective, but as vital contributions to shaping collective cultural narratives. mates magazine publishes an annual independent issue and accompanying group exhibition. Founded in 2024, the organisation launched with its inaugural issue, mates supporting mates, featuring 50 early-career creatives across the arts. The issue explored notions of the body, gender and sexual identity, motherhood, and the need for community.
